The New Jersey Department of Health announced that it has awarded a perfect report card—its highest recognition, to Arbors Care Center, one of the area’s leading post-hospitalization rehabilitation and sub-acute care facilities. Arbors, which was recently honored with the 2015 Best of Toms River Award in the Skilled Nursing Care Facilities category, received the highest grades for quality of life, quality of care, safety and more.
Arbors’ perfect evaluation comes after the completion of a weeklong on-site survey by the Health Department, who annually reviews compliance to the many federal and state regulations put in place to protect patients’ well-being. Nursing homes are ranked based on deficiencies, and the severity of identified problems.
On first impression, quality at Arbors Care Center begins with its naturally beautiful setting on 55 landscaped acres and continues as you enter a bright lobby with 24 ft. high ceilings with skylights. Located on the Toms River/Manchester border, Arbors Care Center is renowned for its unparalleled dedication to the health and well-being of Central and South Jersey’s seniors. For over 20 years it has continued to deliver an ever-widening spectrum of world-class care right where seniors need it most…in their own neighborhood. Wendy Metzger, Administrator at Arbors Care Center says recognition for its high-quality care should go to its dynamic team of compassionate professionals who deliver that care on a daily basis. “Every caregiver at Arbors is connected by a common goal: a passion for enhancing senior living. By providing our patients and residents with the most expert and intimate care imaginable, they can get back home to the active lifestyles they cherish––faster and healthier.” Ms. Metzger continued, “Moving forward, our patients can use what they learn at Arbors to best protect their health and independence at home, and prevent future hospitalizations.”
The perfect report card from the Health Department is further confirmation of what a campus-wide commitment to the highest quality and most compassionate care can achieve. What makes it all the more impressive is the multitude of services and levels of care provided at Arbors for which to be judged on. Arbors Care Center has 150 highly skilled professionals in place to provide individually tailored skilled nursing and therapy services for geriatric, postoperative, orthopedic, cardiac and other patients under the direction of their doctor. Arbors is constantly expanding the scope of their expertise to make this one-of-a-kind care center an even greater source for seniors in need. A newly opened state-of-the-art pulmonary rehabilitation program is the latest example of Arbor’s never-ending commitment to the health and wellness of area seniors. So whether a patient is recovering from heart surgery, a serious fall, a stroke, or suffering with any number of pulmonary conditions such as COPD, pneumonia, chronic bronchitis or emphysema, Arbors always has the right care at the right time to get a loved one’s health back on track.
Part of Hovnanian’s Senior Living continuum-of-care campus, Arbors Care Center is family owned, and operates as one big family. Many of the attending physicians, nurses, and therapists have been on staff for ten years and more, creating a continuity of care that helps build trust between patients and caregivers. In this nurturing, family-style environment, patients at the Arbors are more apt to join their neighbors and familiar faced therapists and recreation workers in a beautiful activities center to share games and new friendships, and engage in the exercises and therapy programs that so positively impact their physical, emotional and mental well-being. With so many long- and short-term stays resulting in the most positive patient experiences, it comes as no surprise that Arbors consistently receives high marks from its residents and families in satisfaction surveys.
Experiencing first hand the many ways life at the Arbors has positively impacted their lives, many short-term residents decide to become full-time Arbors residents. Becoming a permanent part of the Arbors community, patients can continue to take advantage of the innumerable services and amenities they might not find at home such as three delicious meals served in a magnificent sunlit-dining room, every day activities in a beautiful activities center for which to nurture their minds and bodies, endless opportunities to make new friendships and social connections, around-the-clock professional nurse supervision and the most specialized physicians on call to safeguard their health and well-being.
The struggles that come with aging can be overwhelming. Right now, scores of concerned families have tough choices to make for a loved one soon to be released from the hospital, but not yet ready to care for themselves at home. For these consumers, the Department of Health report card can be used as a measuring stick to help them better understand what differentiates quality facilities like Arbors Care Center from other senior care centers. Touring a senior care facility in person is the best way to judge which facility is best suited for their loved one’s recovery, and Arbors Care Center encourages seniors and their families to do just that.
